FGSR – Fundación Germán Sánchez Ruipérez

The Foundation was established as a private and independent non-profit organization in 1981 by the Spanish publisher Germán Sánchez Ruipérez. FGSR is devoted to culture, education and reading, focusing most of its programs in the running and experimentation of innovative projects  for literacy and the spreading of reading and new media. The experience has also been transferred to a great number of courses, books, seminars and conferences directed at professionals of the education sector and librarians.  Fundación GSR constantly evaluates and improves its strategies and seeks to collaborate with a large number of institutions and people through its projects. Some of the ongoing programmes are: ‘Territorio eBook’, R&D project on digital Reading; ‘Nubeteca’ which is a proposal for the management of digital within the libraries and sustainable relations with publishers and e-distributors; ‘Outdoors library’ where FGSR explores the new ways for the promotion of reading by linking the building of family libraries, training activities and a digital platform; ‘Lectura Lab’ is the website about R&D of Reading that is now the reference for all the professionals of the book chain and reading policies across the Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries; ‘Canal Lector’  it’s a website for teachers and librarians that includes information and tools about more than 11.000 children’s books from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Venezuela and today it’s being used by north American library networks to build their collections in Spanish and the brand new ‘Lectyo’ which is a social network of librarians, teachers, publishers, illustrators, booksellers and the rest of professionals that work within the book world, after its first five weeks has reached more than 20.000 registered users.  At the end of 2012 was inaugurated the new centre in Madrid named ‘Casa del Lector’, 8.000 square metres devoted to the exploration of the new meaning of reading within a digital context.
