Money for innovation: how the European Commission promotes growth for creative industries

October 15, 2015 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Digital innovation and access to finance are keywords for growth for creative industries in Europe and the EC now offers new instruments to address the challenges of competitiveness and innovation.

Access to finance for creative industries remains difficult because of many factors;  the variety and complexity of culture sector especially when it concerns SMEs , the lack of expertise in financial institutions to analyses CCI business models, the difficulty to evaluate intangible assets of CCIs.

A new financial instrument will be launched by the European Commission to  overcome these obstacles; the Guarantee facility  will be operational in 2016 and will facilitate access to finance for micro, small, and medium sized organisations in the sector, as well as to improve the risk-assessment capacities of participating financial intermediaries.

Horizon 2020 is the EU programme for Research and Innovation; the new workprogramme that will be launched for the period 2016-2017 offers several opportunities for creative industries willing improve their competitiveness through technology innovation in products and services. Big data, media and content convergence, tools for smart digital content and support to technology transfer, accessibility interfaces are few of the areas addressed by the forthcoming calls of H2020.

The seminar will provide an overview of the Guarantee Facility instrument and the new workprogramme of H2020 with the aim of pointing out concrete opportunities for SMEs in the publishing sector to invest in innovation. An insight into recent  initiatives and experiences promoting technological and digital innovation in  the publishing sector will stimulate the discussion on needs and trends of the industry.
