Quibee is a startup born June 2015 in Turin, Italy which developed a SaaS proximity marketing platform to boost interactions between brands and their customers, geolocally through ibeacon technology.
Quibee|Enjoy Reading, gathers publishers (RCS Media Group for newspapers/magazines, Rizzoli for books but many more are coming onboard) and distributes them geolocally through the Quibee App for iOS and Android.
Owners of physical places such as bars, ferry boats, hotels, medical studios, simply subscribe to Quibee, receive 1 or more ibeacon (depending on their place) and entertain their customers with an all you can read service. Quibee has been called the “Spotify for publishers” since final users don’t have to pay anything to read and they can read as much as they want.
The Quibee platform and idea was born two summers ago, while visiting a small beach resort. The owner of the resort kindly put dozens of newspapers, magazines and books (actually mostly old titles and in bad conditions), into a huge basket, to be read by their customers.
The the sparkle that brought the team delivering Quibee happened when we saw people spending time reading on their smartphones and tablets instead of reading those old books. In the meantime, Apple lauched iBeacon which became the joinin link to our idea. People still want to read, but just in a different way.
Quibee intercepts physical places and mobile devices, linking them and allowing clients to interact directly with their customers through push notifications. Clients subscribe to the platform, choose the publishers and titles they want to read and receive 1+ beacon (depending on locations) and advertising material for pushing the service. From that moment on, all the clients, through the app, can read as much as they want, anytime they will visit his place.
Publishers can access a detail profiling of the clients (privacy compliant), into a database that they can use for push notification/direct email marketing as well as for improving the quality of their time spent and can thus have a further valorization of their contents.
Quibee also supports publishers in the delivery of their digital version of magazines/newspapers geolocally thanks to the ibeacon, all in one SaaS platform.
The role of technology
Quibee uses iBeacon and Google EddyStones technology, both for inside and outside use.
iBeacon is the name for Apple’s technology standard, which allows Mobile Apps (running on both iOS and Android devices) to listen for signals from beacons in the physical world and react accordingly. In essence, iBeacon technology allows Mobile Apps to understand their position on a micro-local scale, and deliver hyper-contextual content to users based on location. The underlying communication technology is Bluetooth Low Energy.
Through them Quibee can geofence a physical place (our customers shops/bars/ferry boat etc), in order to deliver a better service to final users, at the right time in the right place.
Quibee has run pilot projects in major locations (multiple beaches around Italy, on board of Smart Ferries) and, with no ADV at all, gained a lot of users. It has reached the 8th places in the Apple Store on day 2 of our App deployment, mention from both Apple Store and Google Play in the best new app and an average time of reading (newspapers, magazines and books) of more than 28 min.
